A winter scene with falling snow, which does not show up on this picture, reminds me of many a winter walk I have taken just after a huge storm. What fun to bundle up and go outside to beauty and silence. Back in the sixties we were in Spokane, Washington for a year and one Sunday morning I woke up to a scene just like this one. I dressed warmly, put on my boots and walked to church all by myself. It was cold and the icicles had formed on the tree limbs , not a soul out and the quiet was mesmerising. We need more mornings like that to cleanse our minds and our hearts and get a new lease on life. There is nothing like a good snow storm to shake you up and give you some chores to do and some fun right along with it. Here, near the ocean, we deal with a little tiny bit of slush for a day and then the rain and winds bring in the damp cold from the ocean and we bundle up and go out for a walk. I wrote a poem about Storm Clouds:
Have you ever seen a storm come in above the ocean wide?
The pale blue skies begin to hide behind a long bleak cloud,
Turning gray and partly black, whipping up the tide.
The drenching rain begins to fall and brings a howling wind,
Frothy waves build up tall, stirring up the sea,
hiding floating buoys and fishing boats
beneath the swells so high,
the fishermen batten down the lines that have to tie.
The horizon line seems missing
as the clouds descend the sky
leaving misty, eerie shadows
on the sea so wide.
So today, be happy with your weather . . . it will change in its own good time. Enjoy it as it is, as I do not think we have any power of changing the weather; only the power to change our own attitudes and enjoy whatever comes our way be it good, bad or indifferent. Remember attitude is what makes your world go around. Make it a positive one. Hugs to all.
